Scaffold collapses in Calhoun Co., workers injured

EMMETT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Several workers were hurt Friday afternoon when a scaffold collapsed at a work site for a hotel.

It happened around 12:30 at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel that is being built in Emmett Township on Harper Village Drive off Beckley Road.

Six workers were on or under the scaffold when it collapsed. They were trapped underneath and had to be extricated.

Four men were taken to a Battle Creek hospital for treatment. Two others with more serious injuries were taken to a hospital in Kalamazoo.

Strong winds are being blamed for blowing over the scaffold.

OSHA has been notified of the incident. Police are also investigating.
