Muskegon man in custody for questioning after alleged purse snatching attempt

MUSKEGON, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 45-year-old Muskegon man is in police custody after officers say he tried to steal a woman's purse in a grocery store parking lot.

It happened Thursday night around 8:00 at the Meijer on West Norton, and it was all caught on camera.

Police say the 59-year-old woman was loading groceries into her car when a man driving a silver Pontiac G6 pulled up to her shopping cart, reached out of the car and grabbed her purse.

The woman reportedly tried to pull her purse away, when the suspect hit the gas pedal and dragged her with him.

The woman suffered severe head injuries when she hit a parked car.

The suspected driver was taken into custody for questioning Friday night.

The woman's purse was also located and returned Friday evening, by someone who later contacted Norton Shores Police.
