DNR officer accidentally leaves gun in bathroom, investigation underway

IONIA COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An investigation is underway after a DNR officer accidentally left his gun in a gas station bathroom.

The DNR confirms it happened at a station in Portland, in Ionia County last week.

The agency says the officer was on non-uniformed special assignment at the time, and immediately called the gas station as soon as he realized his weapon was gone.

The gas station had already secured the gun in a safe, and the DNR says the officer immediately notified his officer as to what happened.

The agency says it should serve as a reminder that even highly trained professionals can make mistakes, and anyone who comes across an unattended firearm should call 9-1-1 right away.
