Barry Co. Sheriff discusses fallout from federal investigation

BARRY COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - For the first time, the Barry County Sheriff is responding to the controversy surrounding his department.

Newschannel 3 broke the story on Wednesday as federal agents raided the Sheriff's office.

Multiple sources tell Newschannel 3 that there is a criminal investigation underway, relating to a deadly crash involving a deputy and a potential case of fraud.

Ever since that day, the entire county and much of West Michigan has been wanting answers. But since few are available right now, rumors are starting to fill the void.

Our sources say that since this is a federal investigation, it could last for many months.

Sheriff Dar Leaf assures us that as soon as he is given the green light to discuss the facts, he will walk us through the case.

But Friday, Sheriff Leaf was able to discuss the fallout from the situation with Newschannel 3's Jared Werksma.
