Lt. Gov. Calley signs drilling project legislation

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Michigan Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley has signed new legislation for drilling projects involving carbon dioxide.

The bill was signed Tuesday at Western Michigan University.

The new laws lower taxes for drilling projects that use carbon dioxide to push oil from wells that is otherwise unrecoverable.

The laws also allow oil and gas companies to construct carbon dioxide pipelines and expand their authority to build them on private property.
