Inmate dies in Kent County

KENT COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Kent County Undersheriff Jon Hess says that an inmate had a medical emergency in his cell early Tuesday morning and later died.

34-year-old Jason Tappin was in jail on drug charges and a probation violation since February 3rd.

Tappin was found during a routine check at around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. CPR was performed and he was rushed to the hospital, but died at the hospital.

An autopsy was conducted Wednesday but results were inconclusive pending toxicology results.
