Father of sextuplets suffers fatal heart attack while playing with kids

HAMILTON, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A West Michigan man, father to sextuplets, passed away Wednesday after playing with his children.

The Van Houten family is one we've been following for the last decade. In January of 2004 Ben and his wife Amy welcomed sextuplets.

The kids are now 10. They also have a younger sibling, a sister, who is seven.

Van Houten's father's in law, Calvin Reimink, says he was playing with his children on the trampoline at their Hamilton home Wednesday when he started having chest pains.

He suffered a heart attack and died Wednesday night.

Van Houten was just 39-years-old.

Reimink tells me his son-in-law served as a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Holland for years and was also a leader for Awana, a Christian youth program.

Reimink says he loved children and will be missed.

Dykstra Life Story Funeral Homes in Holland will handle the funeral arrangements.
