Man makes plea deal in fatal crash case

KENT COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A West Michigan man who was driving a pickup truck that crashed into the back of a car, killing two men, has pleaded to misdemeanor charges Friday in Kent County.

58-year-old Patrick Doerr pleaded no contest to misdemeanor moving violation charges.

In September of last year Doerr was driving his truck on US-131 near Post Drive. State police say traffic had slowed to a stop when Doerr slammed into the back of a Chevy Malibu at 84-miles an hour.

29-year-old William Kochis and 49-year-old John Pomeroy both died at the scene.

According to M-Live, a urine test showed Doerr did have opiates and cocaine in his system. However, the results were not admissible in court.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of one year in jail.

His sentencing will be on June 25th.
