Schools locked down after string of shootings in Lansing

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - A pharmacy employee has been shot to death in one of two shootings near Michigan State University's campus in East Lansing.
   
The first shooting occurred just after 11 a.m. Monday in a Rite Aid store at Frandor Shopping Center in Lansing Township, just west of the school.
   
Lansing police officer Robert Merritt says the victim was a 35-year-old man and his death is being investigated as a homicide.
   
The second shooting was reported about 30 minutes later northeast of the campus in East Lansing. Merritt says it's not known if the shootings are related. No arrests have been made.
   
Nearby schools are on lockdown and police are advising people in the neighborhood near the second shooting to lock their doors.
   
Michigan State issued an alert for students and staff.
