Bridge lane could be closed for a year after crash

HOLLAND, Mich. (NEWSHANNEL 3) - Don't expect to travel both lanes of US-31 in Holland anytime soon.

M-DOT officials say the southbound lane could remain closed for up to a year after a truck's boom hit the bridge Monday.

A truck driver had left the hydraulic lift up off a container and the lift struck the bridge as he was driving north on South Washington Avenue.

No one was hurt in the crash.

The insurance carrier and company employing the truck driver will likely pay for the $400,000 in damage to the bridge.

M-DOT bridge inspectors say the US-31 bridge is still safe for drivers.
