Lawmakers combating human trafficking at Super Bowl
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Lawmakers are trying to combat human trafficking here in the U.S., especially at big events like the Super Bowl.
While the Super Bowl attracts thousands of fans, it also draws a more underground population of traffickers and their victims.
A Senate committee held a hearing Monday to talk about their concerns.
"This February the Super Bowl is going to be in New Jersey and we know, we've been preparing for that, for a number of years on a bunch of levels; security levels for sure but also because we know that traffickers follow these international events around and we know that there is an increased demand for it," said Senator Jeffrey Chiesa.
Witnesses at Monday's hearing included state, local and federal government agencies, and representatives from non-governmental organizations.
