FCC wants public feedback on black-out rule

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Federal Communications Commission wants public feedback on a plan to maybe scrap the so-called black out rule.

It prevents television stations from airing games in a home team's market if the game is not sold-out.

The rule mostly applies to NFL games and was designed to discourage local fans from staying home to watch them.

But few games these days don't sell out, so the rule rarely applies.

The NFL says it "strongly opposes" any change.
